Railway deficit case was heard in Supreme Court chaired by F Justice Gulzar Ahmed. Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and Asif Omar appeared before the court.
Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed told Sheikh Rasheed that in the business plan you said everything but did not say how and what action would be taken on it.
Chief Justice said that we are grateful to you, this work is not being done for my own sake nor for the nation but for the nation. ML One has learned about building an elevated train, Railway. If you sell your five properties, all the problems will be solved.
Chief Justice said that ML One is a long story on which Sheikh Rasheed said that after 14 years ML One is tender. ML One will be completed in five years. Is also contributing.
Chief Justice said why Karachi Circle Railway is giving Sindh government, it will still be like Karachi Transport, we wanted to run Karachi Tram after Circular Railway, used to run tram in Karachi at some point, Why put Circular Railway in a pack? Asad Omar said that because of the economic situation, the Karachi Circular was put into a pack.
The Supreme Court ordered that the Karachi Circular Railway be operational in 1 month and start the operational operation of the Circular Railway in 3 months. Asad Omar said that it would not be so soon, it would take time to build the infrastructure.
The Chief Justice said that this is not a thing to do again. Do not lengthen things. The solution to make Karachi Circular Railway land secure is to provide immediate infrastructure. Asad Omar said that Sindh should give orders to the government on which the Chief Justice said that the Sindh government would not deliver.
The court ordered the ML One project to be operational within two years, saying that failure to comply with the given time period would have dangerous consequences. The next hearing of the case will be in the Karachi Registry on February 21.
